Beside the politics for the betterment of the Khulna area Mr Ferdous took various initiative. On 1989 he formed and was lifetime Chairman of Greater Khulna Development Committee. A lot of people from different party joined it and they followed Mr Ferdous. In his leadership there was Municipality Tax withdrawal, Khulna University established, Rupsha Bridge constructed, and Airport Established by the committee.
From the childhood Mr Ferdous was a great player and participated in sports. In the picture of Barisal District Football Team hanged on his Srisnagar house he was seen on Goal Keeper. Maybe he was the supporter of Muslim Sporting Club. On 1960 at the first half Khulna Firoz named Football team was nursed by him.
In the cultural dimension Abu Mohammad Ferdous was highly interested. After the Pakistan revolution there was cultural changes in Khulna. Muslim League worker Ferdous and his friend organized Nazrul days. There artists from Calcutta were present and for Nazrul they collected money.
As a member of Khulna Drama Stage he took part. Khulna Drama Stage was established in 1900. On 1980 it was named as Khulna Natya Niketan. On 1981-82 and 1985-86 Ferdous was the Chairman of the same. On 1979-80 under three of them there was moving drama stage established.
Abu Mohammad Ferdous was introduced as a businessman from 1945 to 1994. The “Modern Book Depoe”, which is established by his father at K.D. Ghosh Road in British era, turned into a highly standard book publication and sell centre with the combine labor and fondness of him and his brothers. In the year 1952, the establish a first class press naming “Eastern Press” in a big house under the boundary of Ullashini Cinema Hall. From this press, they published a weekly magazine naming “Janata” for some year and in 1960 it is shifted at Khulna Police Station crossing on their own property. They earn huge money and reputation from Modern Book Depoe and Eastern Press. After that, they establish a transport company naming “Eastern Transport”. From 1959 to 1962, they move on some ultramodern and comfortable bus service in the route of Khulna-Jessore. As per the request of the District Administration, the first arrange the non-profitable bus service in Khulna-Satkhira route. But due to the all times involvement Mr. Ferdaous in political purpose, there is appeared loss in the transport business for the lack of proper supervision. At that time, he desired to establish industries. As per the co-operation of Shilpa Bank, he took an attempt to establish a partially automatic “Shundarban Rice Mill” and an ultramodern “Hotel Rupsha International”. But it is failed for sever causes. Finally, he sold the rice mill by the arbitration of Shilpa Bank and hand over the land of the hotel and imported goods of Japan. In the year 1988, he handed over the possession of “Modern Book Depoe” to the new owner of the house. After that, he solely established Modern Book Depoe in front of the press on his own land but after four years, it also roots out. In 1996, he sold the land and machineries of Eastern Press. In this way, the successful business of forty, fifty and sixty decade of twentieth century is terminated.
Abu Mohammad Ferdous was married Khaleda Ferdous and had 3 sons and 5 daughters. Yasmin Sultana Buly (Chairman of Ferdous Memorial School) and Jamal Abdul Nasir Lalon (MD of Ferdous Memorial School) are one of them.
Abu Mohammad Ferdous leaves the attraction of this earth and ground forever in 13th December’ 2006 at early morning. He played an important role in the democratic and leftist movement of Bangladesh from 1941 to 2006 for long 65 years as successive leader and activist of Muslim League, Democratic Party and National Awami Party. The sickness of diabetics for long 50 years can not resist him from the duties and responsibilities to the country-ground-people. His irresistible brave and love always inspired him to devote himself for the country and nation. Though his name was not written in the history of the world or Bangladesh, but his name must have to be written in the history of Khulna for his peerless contribution.
